Cirque Éloize
Cirque Éloize
Founder and co-director
A multidisciplinary artist who has performed on stages around the world, Jeannot Painchaud founded Cirque Éloize in 1993. During the first few years, he was featured on stage in the Company’s creations while simultaneously serving as Artistic Director. In 1998, he left the stage to dedicate himself to the endeavours of Cirque Éloize. Today, as Co-Director of the Company, he continues to pursue his dream and his original mission: the development and recognition of the circus arts as a complete art form. In 2003, Jeannot Painchaud, a self-taught artist and entrepreneur, founded the very first circus festival in North America, entitled the Semaine des arts du Cirque, which was held on Îles de la Madeleine, where he grew up. In 2006, he was asked to join the group that was entrusted with producing the closing ceremonies for the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin as Assistant Director of Acrobatics. His involvement at Cirque Éloize runs from the design phase through to artistic direction for special events presented around the world.
Samuel Tétreault, Vice-president
Les 7 doigts de la main
Les 7 doigts de la main
Co-founderand co-director
Samuel Tétreault entered l'École Nationale de Cirque de Montreal at the age of 14, determined to become a hand-balancer. During his 7 years at circus school, his interest extended beyond his main discipline and he spent almost equal time honing his skills as a dancer and actor. Samuel's solo hand-balancing act quickly received international recognition, taking home the bronze lion at the International Circus festival in WuQiao, China and the silver medal at Paris' Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain. After touring his solo act many years with Cirque du Soleil's Alegria (over 1500 performances), Cirque Éloize's Orchestra, and the German cabarets Pomp Duck and Circumstance and the Roncalli Apollo Variety, Samuel returned to Montreal in 2002 to form Les 7 doigts de la Main. Dividing his time between artistic and administrative responsabilities, Samuel seeks to explore the theatrical potential of the acrobatic performance.
